Travel Update: Warwick Wine Estate

One of the absolute best things about living in the Cape - the abundance of beautiful wine farms, that are just a stone throw away from your doorstep. Yesterday, we had the opportunity the visit one of Stellenbosch's finest, Warwick Wine Estate is situated on the R44 between Stellenbosch  and Paarl.

A beautiful estate, surrounded by trees, vineyards and a dam. Friendly staff made us feel welcome and we started our day at Warwick with a wine safari. The 'Big 5 Vineyard Safari', took us on an educational journey through the vineyards in a safari Land Rover where the grape varieties were compared to the  animals of the 'Big 5'. A special stop at their 'penthouse' made the trip even more special.

We enjoyed a wine tasting of their award winning wines afterwards.

Come lunchtime, a scrumptious picnic box awaited. Seated on big cushions under a sun umbrella, we had a gorgeous view to enjoy whilst tucking in. The gourmet picnic included a freshly baked loaf, goats cheese, quinoa and rocket salad, a gazpacho salad, a beef tagliata salad, a variety of cheese, marmalade and mediterranean pesto, prosciutto, melon and Bocconcini  skewers and cheescake with berry compote. Everything was served in true picnic style in glass jars and wooden crates.

A Saturday well spent. I love a good wine tasting and picnic to boot and this was definitely one of the best ones that I have tried. Have a look at their website http://www.warwickwine.com/ or for further queries email them at info@warwickwine.com
