Foschini Fashion Design Awards

The Foschini Fashion Design Awards offer the ultimate platform for young designers to gain insight into the fashion retail industry.

The competition runs in five phases from November 2013 to May 2014 and is open to 2014 final year students only. Winners of the competition will enjoy a retail design internship at Foschini in Cape Town in July 2014, attend the fashion shoot of their garments, as well as launch a limited range in selected Foschini stores in October 2014.

The theme for 2014 was - From Bauhaus 2 Boho and of the six finalists, three were from FEDISA fashion University in Cape Town, also known as my own place of study, for the past three years. Congratulations to my fellow class mates: Jade Rea, Emily Helens and Sane Bosman who showcased a tremendous amount of creative talent and thriving ambition.

The top six looks

The top six finalists were asked for the next phase of the competition to design a capsule collection of three looks. I had the opportunity to work with Sane Bosman on the shoot for her collection, that was shot alongside the looks of other finalist Emily Hellens.

Poppy Delevingne on the Best Thing About Being British! | Fashion Week S...

Model Update: The Other Delevigne

Poppy Delevigne is considered one of the most gorgeous women and sought after faces in fashion. Scouted as a teenager by Storm Model Management, she has since  featured in ads for Burberry, Louis Vuitton and Chloe.

Her sister, Cara Delevigne may have been the 'it' girl for the past year, but since her wedding to James Cooke, Poppy has been making head lines for all the right reasons, namely her breathtaking couture Chanel wedding gown.

Poppy has appeared in a short film commemorating Mathew Williamson's contribution to the fashion industry, she has been the face of Louis Vuitton, Alberta Ferreti and Nails Inc.And she is a Young Ambassador for the British Fashion Council. Style wise, well frankly, I think she comes out top, as the most fashionable Delevigne sister by far.

Well you may be girl, but luckily your fashion sense doesn't show it, even one bit.

Fashion Update: Move Over Ladies

It is time for some male fashion, after all, they also need an Autumn update.

Slim slacks are back, the silhouette for the season is slim cut, from trousers to blazers.
Especially here in Cape Town, we are well acquainted with rain, so if you are looking to invest in a raincoat, make that a raglan-sleeve cut.
The colour palette is pointing towards shades of green and quite a surprise - orange.
The man bag that has been seen on the runways for the past few years is making an appearance again and this time it is boxy and big.
Love 'em or  hate 'em roll necks or turtlenecks are back this season, giving us a break from the scarf. Concerning texture, it's all quilted, no puffa's this season though, jackets are still as warm, but not as big and puffy as last season.
For evening wear brown is the new black, that means brown, that means suit, tie, shoes, the whole shebang. And to top you well dressed creatures off, the clean shaven/wet hair combo is back.

Some inspiration for all the fellas
