Fasshion Update: Sleeves Ye Says

They are good for us - sleeves cover our arms when we are in need of a tan, they hide the old bingo wings and they can also instantly take your outfit from aves to tres chic, think that escalated quickly? Have a look at these sleeve examples, where bigger is definitely bigger and more is more.

A simple double sleeve can be all you need, or if you are insecure about your upper arms try a sleeve that starts narrow and ends in a balloon sleeve at the wrist. With kimonos still being all the rage, they are perfect for this trend. When wearing this trend, be sure to balance your look, with slim fit pieces, as not to end up looking like a bag lady.

Cheers: Greentea Apple Mint Martini

Or as I like to call it GAMM, for no reason whatsoever.

I am hosting my first pot-luck evening tonight and to get things started, I thought I would invent a cocktail to welcome my guests.

I played around with my favourite beverage, the herb that looked the best in the garden and the juice that we had the most of in the fridge and came up with my GAMM.

Ingredients: Serves 6

-1 L of boiling water
-6 greentea bags
-1 L of applejuice, cooled in the fridge
-100 ml vodka
-6 sprigs of fresh mint

1. Wash and dry the mint.
2. Place the teabags in a jug and pour the boiling water into the jug( make sure the jug is made from a material that can hold boiling water). Let it steep and cool for 3 hours.
3. Remove the teabags.
4.Pour the apple juice and vodka over the tea, add the mint and stir.
5. Place the jug in the fridge, until just before serving.
6. Serve in Martini glasses and garnish with more mint.

Get ready to not be able to drive home - don't worry my guests shall be staying over for the night.

Travel Update: Guinevere Guest Farm

With silly season having fully commenced, It has been tough juggling classes, an overload of birthday parties and work. So obviously the best solution - to simply take off on a road trip of course.

We set off on Friday afternoon and after your typical, casually getting lost, losing your temper and cursing wildly episode, we arrived in the beautiful Tulbagh Valley. Guinevere guest farm is located near the historic town of Tulbagh, a mere two hour drive from Cape Town aka the perfect place for a weekend break-away.

The monastery style guest house, boasts spectacular views of the surrounding Obiqua-, Winterhoek- and Witzenverg mountains, that we could enjoy from our balcony.

We arrived just in time for a gorgeous sunset, followed by a wine tour and tasting. They have a small modern boutique winery, where they produce wine exclusively for the guests.

The whole estate reminded me of the Italian countryside, the beautiful interior was a mix of rustic farm and Mediterranean villa.

The courtyard in the middle of the estate.

A place to quietly write in the bedroom.

The common room where guests can come to relax, watch a movie or make a cuppa.

Bright and early the next morning, I explored a bit, before breakfast. After seeing the pool, I longed for summer and was already thinking about the next time we could visit in warmer weather. I also discovered a true gem in the loft on the third floor - a painting depicting Racheltjie de Beer, by a local Capetonian artist, who is part of the Guinevere guest farm family, many of his portraits are placed along the walls of the rooms and are also for sale.

A view from the loft.

Racheltjie de Beer as depicted by the artist.

Breakfast was a delicious two course meal, with all the ingredients from the eggs to the fruit & veg, directly from their own garden. It was just the fuel that we needed for our after breakfast walk to discover and view the beautiful fynbos and renosterveld that the area is known for.

Granola tart with yogurt, honey and fresh fruit.

Freshly baked bread, eggs, cheese and fresh salad.

What a view.

A truly memorable weekend. The owners are friendly and go out of their way to make you feel right at home. I cannot wait to return.

Frill Me Fancy: All Lace Everything

Whether it be a peek-a-boo hem or a full ensemble, nothing spells ladylike, quite like lace, ruffles and frills. As with most fashion though, don't go overboard, as too much can make you look old and outdated.
The key is mixing simple cuts and silhouettes, with a touch of these re-fabrications, to ensure the end result is feminine and stylish.
A few tres chic examples if you please.

A perfect look that will take you from day-to-night.

This trend can be taken to accessories - veils, bunny ears and alicebands.

If you're more of a sun lounger than a swimmer, opt for a vintage swimsuit to stand out from the beach crowd.

Add a feminine touch to boots.

An open-armhole vest or dress is perfect to show just a hint of lace.

No need for traditional black or white lace.

Go all the way - make a statement with a high neckline and long sleeves.

'We are so lucky to be women, because we can wear trousers, but underneath, we can wear a lace bra & underwear - we can still feel sexy.' - Carine Roitfeld
